Thanks to Senator Delores Gresham and Representative Jeremy Faison for their efforts in getting this bill passed.
This bill, as amended, is different from the original bill. The original bill would have imposed a liability on businesses/entities, etc, if
- a permit holder complied with their posting signs
- the permit holder was harmed while on the premises
The amended form of the bill might be called the anti-matter of the original bill. Instead of doing the above, it
- provides immunity to the business/entity if the business doesn't post, but
- does not apply in the case of gross negligence, etc.
Not the best we could hope for, but sometimes on the way to the perfect, we have to temporarily settle for the ok.
In essence, an entity that does not post against firearms cannot be sued by an unarmed citizen if the unarmed citizen is injured on the premises because some bad guy comes in and shoots up the joint.*
This is a small step in the right direction, so,
LET'S SWAMP THE GOVERNOR WITH CALLS AND EMAILS AND URGE HIM TO SIGN THE BILL!
Remember, we are the good guys, so act accordingly......
*Note, this is not intended to be a complete analysis, but a quick synopsis, and is solely my opinion.
